Learning to Accept Where you are Right Now

We are often so hard on ourselves thinking, I should 'be more ahead of where I am now’ or ‘I wish I could be back to a time when things were easier’

And although they help us plan the future or gain feedback from the past, both these thoughts do not embrace acceptance of where we are at in our lives right now.  instead these thoughts resist the present moment.

When we have these thoughts we tend to compare ourselves to others.

Think of this scenario: You are going through your Facebook feed and you notice someone's  post sharing a great holiday or recent business pr personal success and the next thing you are feeling negative. Your inner story is one tinged by self pity, envy,  jealousy,  or self doubt.

Instantly these feelings bring you into a state of frustration, confusion, panic or anger about your current reality.'

We reminisce on the past: “Remember when I had money or the time to do that?” Or we fantasize about the future: “When I get more confident I will achieve that!”

What if you were in the exact place you were meant to be, right now?
This acceptance would instantly change your thoughts and create a new inner story. Instead of being in the past or future you could start to ask yourself better questions:

Why has this time presented itself?

What does this time have to offer me?

How can I make the best out of this time?

What opportunities are in front of me right now?

If I let go of self pity or comparison, could I take more personal responsibility for my life?

If I want things to change what are at least 3 things I need to do?

Instantly these questions remove your resistance and allow you to embrace this present moment. Your focus is placed in the now and therefore instead of wasting time in pity or envy you begin to take practical and active steps forwards, which ultimately removes your 'stuckness' and propels you forwards.

Next time you hear your inner monologue drifting off into the past or future give these questions a try and see where they take you. :-)

Enjoy!
