It takes a very strong woman to let a man lead

Most of you know that I have become an enthusiastic Salsa student. Salsa fulfills me on so many levels- in one hour it gives me an exercise program, fun, social time, laughter (lots, especially at myself), and therapy. And last night I got into a great conversation with a few other dancers. You see there are many women out there who are struggling to learn Salsa and struggle with the idea of “letting” a man lead them. For these women the issue of being controlled came up- If they let a man lead in dance, then he was “telling them what to do” and controlling them. Wow have we really come that far? Yes we are independent women; however there is a fine line between our fear and being in our power.

The real beauty of the dance is when a man and woman are in perfect flow, or perfect union. There is no power play, no competition, no domination or control it is a matter of common sense, gravity and a natural law of nature. In this flow both man and woman are powerful, equal and are working together to create magic. Although the man is “leading” the woman there is grace and beauty in her being agile and flexible enough to go with the flow. Watch this video and see for yourself… Would you call her a push over? Would you say she is being controlled?

She looks more like a Goddess and appears to be completely empowered. In fact if you really feel the dance you know that she completely owns it and he honours that- in fact all he is doing is guiding her towards her absolute magnificence- their absolute magnificence. And so I started to think that in actual fact…

IT TAKES A VERY STRONG WOMAN TO LET A MAN LEAD.
Perhaps this metaphor of “THE DANCE” is a new model and a new paradigm for the MODERN DAY RELATIONSHIP. Two individuals, in their essence- completely believing in themselves, with no ego, nothing to prove and have complete trust and freedom.
The man in his essence is strong, certain, protective, structured, focused. He knows who he is, has nothing to prove. He is confident, beliefs in himself and knows his strength. He is in awe of his women and with his strength and his power he guides them both towards beauty. He is open hearted yet completely strong.
A woman in her essence is graceful , soft, nurturing, playful. She is confident in her own skin and trusts “her man” and herself completely. In her heart she knows that it is her beauty and her power that drives a man; yet she does not need an EGO to prove it because she simply allows it to be.
Between them both they have trust, strength, grace, respect, friendship, balance, honour, belief and harmony. A perfect blend of Yin and Yang!
It takes a lot of courage to let go of our Ego and embrace our Essence. It is strength to have the self awareness to know that when we fear we are being controlled then we are actually being controlling, and when we are not trusting then we are in fear.
Perhaps it’s time to bring back the balance.
